    Position Overview

    As a Sales Counselor, you will provide members and retailers with superior sales and operational support in order to maximize the retailer’s success and correspondingly, the success of C&S.  This will be achieved by promoting and selling all programs offered by C&S designed to increase retailer sales and gross profit, as well as enhance competitiveness within the marketplace.


    • Visit stores in assigned territory on a call frequency schedule based on store/group volume.
    • Sell company programs to retailers, utilizing formal presentations developed by the program owner.
    • Promote and sells sales-building programs to retailers utilizing sell sheets developed by program owners. 
    • Schedule and conduct special store walk visits and provides accurate assessment of store conditions and merchandising techniques.  Also, review missing A&B reports.
    • Performs store profit and loss analysis for each retailer to measure store performance to goals. 
    • Review sales trends by department for each store utilizing counselor budget report.
    • Examine gross profit percentage report to evaluate each retailer’s gross profit by department and take action to ensure that each retailer is realizing the required gross profit for success.
    • Promote retailer attendance at trade shows.
    • Identify, obtain and coordinate required C&S expertise to assist retailers in all departments.
    • Provides a level of customer service in all activities that demonstrates an understanding of the customers’ needs and that exceeds their expectations.


    • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a related field from four-year college or university; or minimum five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, or procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and volume.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Must have valid driver's license.
    • Must have broad knowledge of food marketing and the ability to communicate that knowledge to retailers effectively in written or verbal form.  Must have strong knowledge of profit & loss as they relate to retail food business.  Must have thorough knowledge of various methods of retail operation including "EDLP", "Warehouse", "Quality & Service", etc.  Must have ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
