Position Overview

As the VP, Tax you will Direct and oversee the research analysis, structuring, and implementation of transactions and tax planning strategies designed to minimize the overall tax consequences of the Company. Manage Federal and State compliance and audits. Administer the Tax Department budget.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct in-depth tax research from sources such as the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations, reputable tax research organizations or external counsel. Prepare detailed written memoranda as necessary to identify, analyze, resolve, and document tax issues associated with proposed transactions and tax planning strategies. Oversee the gathering of financial data, legal documents, and other factual information relevant to the implementation of tax planning strategies.
  • Development and implementation of restructuring proposals in order to minimize taxation
  • Tax advice on major corporate transactions, merger/de-merger and acquisition or disposition of group assets, including drafting of board papers and other internal papers, review of legal documents prepared by internal/external legal counsel and tax provision advice with input.
  • Tax business partner to internal management concerning all corporate/JV aspects of operations, including Tax review and sign-off on company projects
  • Manage the audit process relating to federal, state and foreign income tax audits. Determine the Companys audit strategy. Negotiate and settle audits in line with adopted strategy.
  • Oversee management of the Sales and Property Tax function to include setting department objectives and monitoring the departments progress. Identify and implement opportunities to minimize sales and property tax expenses.
  • Undertake project management responsibilities on an as needed basis
  • Plan, organize, control and lead subordinate functions within established budgetary and manpower plans; establish goals, performance standards, and operating procedures for assigned functions. Participate in creation of department staffing and capital budgets.
  • Coach and develop team members; hire, fire, assess, discipline, document performance, recommend salary and classification changes. Act as an advisor to subordinate managers or staff to help meet established schedules and/or resolve technical or operational problems.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant required

 

Experience

  • 8+ years progressive work related experience in the tax department with responsibility for managing corporate/partnership tax research and planning, as well as 6 to8 years managing teams and/or significant complex projects.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing people.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for the purpose of providing information to clients, vendors, senior management and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in the review of joint venture agreements, purchase & sale agreements and intercompany agreements.
  • Specific knowledge of corporate and partnership accounting and tax preparation in a large multi-unit environment
  • Demonstrated ability to use computerized financial and tax-related software; extensive experience with EXCEL preferred for analysis and reports.
  • Ability to perform tax planning and strategic analysis to address national and international tax issues
  • Demonstrated experience in performing in-depth tax research to minimize liability and resolve pertinent tax issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement creative tax planning ideas
  • Working knowledge of IFRS financial reporting and US GAAP regulations and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a broad range of tax matters arising in diverse jurisdictions and specialty areas
  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior executives and coordinate with external professional advisors on a global basis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tax in the area of acquisitions, dispositions and restructuring existing or new entities.
