Position Overview

As the Senior  Manager- Outbound Transportation, you will deliver transportation and logistics solutions that provide the best customer experience in an efficient and cost effective manner. You will have a primary focus on reducing costs/P&L performance, efficiencies, safety, service, strategic planning and projects, as well as team development to meet the department and company strategic goals. In this role, you will develop internal and external partnerships with warehouse operations, sales, ops finance, procurement, and customers to continuously improve service metrics while reducing operational costs.


  • Responsible for leading and/or influencing a team to optimal performance by holding the team accountable to key metrics such as, but not limited to, on-time service level, efficiency KPIs, backhaul performance, and asset management. Providing consistent coaching while maintaining morale and the overall development of team members with in either a direct, dotted line or dedicated carrier environment.
  • Responsible for managing the P&L in the budgeting, forecasting and execution cycles. Manages cost such as, but not limited to, labor, fuel, and equipment R&M. Identifies opportunities to improve processes that result in lowered expense and/or improved execution with an understanding of how each change affects key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations including but not limited to: driver scheduling, communication on service delays, updating customer as needed, finalizing and submitting weekly payroll, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Holds the team accountable for clear communication with proper stakeholders and serves as the champion for all internal and external communication. Build relationships and ensures open communication lines with partners in warehouse operations, sales, customer service, procurement, and the customer. Responsible for ensuring employees are informed and aware of business processes and policies.
  • Owns promoting a safety culture and ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations and company policies, providing consistent application in all aspects of discipline. Ensures all hiring practices and training is complete and to standard. Enforces driver log accuracy, medical cards/licensing and execution of the company’s drug testing protocol.


  • Bachelor's degree or 8 years of applicable leadership experience
  • General computing ability, multi-tasking, interpersonal skills, communication (written and oral)
  • Knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations
  • Performance management experience
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
