Position Overview

As a Router Analyst, you will create the best possible routing solutions that facilitate the efficient and timely delivery of customer orders at the lowest possible cost to our company.  While the financial impact of a router’s work is dependent on their assigned billings, their solutions directly impact the P&L.  The average router has influence on nearly $7 million in annual transportation expense.  In addition to daily route planning responsibility this position works directly with fleet operations to identify opportunities, create action plans, and implement changes that create efficiencies within the network.  During these engagements the router analyst is tasked with leading the project team.

*Hours are traditionally 11AM-9PM

  • Create preliminary routing solutions for customer orders as dictated by the billing schedule using a route planning software. This may include multiple billings that span multiple distribution points and/or delivery regions.  The router analyst manually manipulates the route planning software’s solution to optimize results by consolidating loads, re-sequencing stops, and/or holding small/unscheduled orders to later billing cycles.
  • Incorporate multiple customer requests within the routing solution, utilizing the most cost efficient avenue. May include off-schedule deliveries, non-standard delivery times, first or last stop delivery requirements, etc.  Communicate the plan of action to internal stakeholders, while capturing any incremental expense via the preferred method.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations and/or drive cost out of our business. Focus on total company solutions meaning that constraints, costs, and practices in warehousing, transportation, and/or customer are considered.  Examples of projects include, but are not limited to:  modes of transport (fleet vs. non-fleet), allocation plans (direct shipment vs. xdock), route planning efficiency (modeling).  Once an opportunity is realized, create a project plan with expected results, and align with your supervisor.  With proper sign off, work with a project team to implement.
  • Miscellaneous Assignments and Reporting- including, but not limited to:
    • Schedule backhaul loads.
    • Must understand fleet expenses to ensure profitability.
    • Communicate with fleet to determine if staffing/equipment levels allow for the    additional workload.
    • Schedule store clean out requests
    • Attend to Salesforce requests
    • Applicable tasks in Manhattan
    • Internal and External reporting

  • High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of related experience
  • Experience with MS Office, Mainframe, JDA/Manugistics Software preferred
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, solve problem with quick turnaround
