    Position Overview

    As a Perishable Sales Specialist, you will engage decision makers in Independent Retailers assisting with sales and merchandising of retail meat products, as well as work to increase the volume of products and programs that C&S offers. The Perishable Sales Department engages across a wide spectrum of corporate departments, such as Procurement, Transportation, Merchandising and Customer Service as we strive to deliver World Class products and services. We are looking for a Perishable Specialist with meat experience to manage both the expectations of our customers and of C&S corporately.


    • Maximize sales with existing customers, using the C&S programs combined with the RAM’s individual knowledge and experience in both retail and wholesale to increase sales and gross profit for the retailer.
    • Assist Meat department managers, owners, and or supervisors with product selection with training of new product and proper merchandising, with retails to establish proper gross profits for their department, with the writing of the department ads using C&S ad program, and with maintaining C&S product list with acceptable retails.
    • Working with all necessary personal for a new store and or a re-model start up to insure a smooth transition from an existing Meat department to a new department.
    • Build working relationship with C&S regional staff and retailers. Understand the obstacles and challenges from both sides in order to resolve issues and find solutions.
    • Individual store visits to assist the retailer in achieving and maintaining a business relationship with C&S including problem solving, negotiating , developing of programs while securing integrity and trust between C&S and the retailer.
    • Sales of new programs and services. Understand and explain C&S programs and services to the retailer’s buyers / representatives.
    • Coordinating store re-sets and new item procurement and placement for the retailer.
    • Selling special buy programs such as shippers, seasonal and holiday items.
    • Planning and suggesting equipment replacement and upgrades, taking operation and financial matters into consideration, such as return on investment, appearance\ placement and profit.
    • Keep both the retailer and C&S informed of competitive activities both locally and nationally.


    • High School Education (college degree preferred)
    • Combined 5+ years in retail and wholesale perishables categories of Bakery and Deli.
    • Retail meat management experience may include technical baking skills, personnel scheduling and management and an understanding of par-bake and thaw-and-serve merchandising strategies, retail scratch bakery experience, with an understanding both of dry and wet ingredients
    • Retail meat management experience may include a working knowledge in the Sandwich, Pizza, Whole and Cut Cheese, Olive, Wing, Rotisserie and Home Meal Replacement departments.
    • Understanding of all technical and managerial supermarket functions [all facets] – some wholesale knowledge [understanding of transportation, schedules, and equipment.]
    • Excellent Communication skills both oral and written, time management negotiating abilities, problem solving, interpersonal relationship, financials related to supermarkets P&L’s
    • Food Safety Certified or Food Safety Certification Eligible
    • Computer skills, presentation skills, ability to travel and flexibility.
